amwhogirl I have been listening to Rosie’s music for many years and have looked forward to each release from her. She and I share a love of the Beatles, and while I would never call her sound derivative, she evokes the same magic I associate with them in their most creative period, and a similar touch of whimsy and musical innovation. Her latest work has been one of the joys of this pandemic and it’s on heavy rotation in our house. A delight from start to finish. 💕

pun-o-ramic I bought the CD on the strength of a review in Shindig and I’m so glad I did.

Each play reveals new depths. The songs are fresh, perceptive and sophisticated; there are many influences at work but they combine into a harmonious whole. The fact that she wrote, played and recorded everything is impressive. Such talent deserves a wider audience.

For fans of Big Moon, Sundowners, Elliott Smith, Lily & Madeleine etc. Favorite track: I Forget To Breathe.

howardguitarman Rosie has risen above the pandemic to quietly release an amazing album. 'Magnified' has the power to shrink the blues we all feel. When the pandemic recedes this uplifting work will certainly get the attention it deserves.

lynnbill1 One of the best albums I've heard in decades. Rosie's music is like water flowing in a river winding around a mountain, with rapids in places. You never know where it comes from or where you're going, but it always leads to a beautiful place you've never been to before. Superb vocals, melodies, lyrics, chord progressions, arrangements, recording, mixing, all of it. Buy this to hear it in the highest quality audio. Favorite track: I Confess.

about

Magnified charts yet more progression in Rosie's songwriting and production evolution. The album has a more positive vibe than her previous work and is personal and introspective whilst also telling stories on a larger scale. There are themes surrounding global ecology, finding peace and meaning in nature, finding happiness and hope in personal relationships whilst dealing with obstacles from the past. As with her previous two albums, Rosie's sound and inspiration changes from song to song which further highlights the variety of lyrical subject matter. The album and artwork, (created by Rosie's incredibly talented sister!) have been finished off during the pandemic lockdown.

Reviews of Magnified:

"A British singer/songwriter for whom the studio is a personal fiefdom in which she plays all the instruments and operates all the equipment, Abbott has finesse to burn and much of it has been spent on this, her third album. It's full of shape-shifting songs where chord progressions take unanticipated turns, eschewing the obvious and forcing the ear and brain to engage. Abbott's soulful flair for layering vocal harmonies recalls Vonda Shepard and Laura Nyro. Glam-rock balladry and folk are clearly sources of inspiration, but the occasional rulebook-destroying manoeuvre suggests that a jazz spirit is also at play. Magnified resists categorisation - "Distant Memory" is built on a chant-like, Eastern template, "Alice Died" is Anglo folk/pop, "Malestroit Smile"is a Kraftwerk-like interlude, "Hold On"is slinky lounge-soul. The hard task, with such a restless stylistic spirit, is to achieve cohesion, but Abbott does". - Charles Donavan, Shindig! Magazine.

"Rosie Abbott, an across-the-ponder who radiates talent at every turn, is releasing a gorgeous song cycle with singer-songwriter roots and baroque tendencies that melodic pop fans will devour with glee. Magnified, a very Kate Bush-y kind of affair, finds Abbott playing and singing everything in a most mesmerizing way. Pure bliss." - Alan Haber, Pure Pop Radio.

"Rosie has always had a winning way with a tune, her sense of melody and willingness to play around and tinker with song formats making her stand out in a crowded field. This album certainly warrants the exposure which, undeservedly, bypassed its predecessors."- Dave Hammond, The Smelly Flowerpot

"Rosie Abbott is a singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist for Chesterfield and, if you've never heard her work before, it's time to pay attention. Her third album, Magnified, presents a mighty 16 tracks that span many genres and moods, including folk, indie, country and soul. Regardless of each song's influences, Rosie's strong vocals and creative songwriting hold the album together as one wonderful, creative project. Listen, and go on a journey that won't be forgotten". - Bassey, LeftLion Magazine.

"Rosie Abbott's album Magnified is a wonderful listen with hints of Baroque pop and more experimental Folk. It opens with 'Magnified' which is a piano driven ballad, with later Beatles vibes. The layered vocal harmonies are very impressive. 'I Confess' is a dark and moody ballad with melancholic lyrics. The theme is regret and reflecting on a past relationship. Musically, it is arranged perfectly with a great guitar solo at the end. Other highlights include 'Alice Died', which is more upbeat and folky with elements of storytelling. Lyrically, it is heartbreaking - "So sad to see how she'd become as brittle as a flower drying." 'Always Time' is another favourite here, a simple, stripped back song with lovely vocal harmonies. 'Yes' is an intricate, emotional folk song and an acceptance of a marriage proposal. 'The Look in our Eyes' is the most 'pop' song on the album and brilliantly melodic with inventive lyrics. A wonderfully accomplished album, especially as Abbott self-recorded this in lockdown. Highly recommended." - Julie Fowler, Colours Through The Air.

"Rosie Abbott’s songs, harmonies and melodies twist and wind their way through imaginative arrangements that often hint at classic retro influences such as Bowie, The Beach Boys, Laura Nyro, Kate Bush and, occasionally, Queen’s clever and sometimes quirky mid 70s wall of harmonies and counter-harmonies.
The title track, which opens up the album in delightful fashion, manages to coalesce nearly all those influences. Full of unusual chord progressions and rhythms that morph expertly (exemplified by the slightly off-kilter waltz of 'I Miss You,' with its lockdown effect lyric) there is a subtlety on display and a lightness of touch, as well as a confidence in the artist’s own abilities (Rosie Abbott not only plays everything, she records and masters her own material). Clearly her own artist, Magnified is a highly stylistic and very enjoyable listen; Rosie Abbott’s fascinating muse also makes her one to definitely keep an eye and ear on." - Adam Norsworthy & Ross Muir,
